SUMMARY
The individual is responsible for posting all articles on
the website, spirituality.com, as well as a number of essential administrative
tasks involving writers, and editorial work, primarily in the form of basic
copyediting.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES
- Upload (deploy) items onto the
Web (spirituality.com); this work is time-consuming because of the process
that must be followed very carefully and because, depending on demand, the
system can take a long time to process these steps. Each article takes approximately an hour
to transfer onto the site after it has been copy-edited and
proofread. Then it needs to be
proofread again because mistakes can enter during the transfer
process.
- Change articles that are
“targeted” on specific pages on the site, including the Home Page and
special topics pages (called “buckets”).
- Make changes and corrections
on items already deployed on the site.
- Prepare new submissions as
Word documents for editing and set up the corresponding xml file that will
be used later in deploying the item.
- Obtain Quark files from Sentinel/Journal and format them into Word documents for editing and
set up the corresponding xml file that will be used later in deploying the
item.
- Help to copy edit reprints
from the Sentinel/Journal and
other projects as assigned.
- Prepare Question of the Week
e-mails and similar projects as Word document for editing and set up the
corresponding xml file that will be used later in deploying the item.
- Assist with paylists, copyright releases, verifications.
- Change e-mail addresses for
registered users of the site.
- Assist with research as
assigned.
- Forward to authors the
positive feedback sent to us by Customer Service.
- Work with Church Records to
ensure that spirituality.com files, etc., are properly archived.
- Update metadata and other coding
on articles as needed when site is updated.

JOB
REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience
A bachelor’s degree, preferably in
English or writing or a related subject, is basic. Writing or editing experience would be ideal,
although these tasks can be learned “on the job.”
Knowledge/Skills
Because this position interfaces
between technology and editorial, patience with both sides and a cheerful
disposition are essential. Problem-solving and analytical ability are also
important. Flexibility under deadline
pressure is key to working with the team. Good
organizational skills, overall friendliness, and willingness to work within a
small, busy group is important. Openness to spiritual
ideas aids in doing the work simply because copy editing and other projects
involve working with those types of concepts
Technology Skills
Microsoft Office, Quark, Interwoven,
XML, ATG Control Center.
Work Environment
This position
regularly works in an office environment.
Christian Science Information
Mother Church membership and Primary class
instruction are strongly preferred.
