SUMMARY

This position supervises staff electricians and the operation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment that support lighting, HVAC, telephone, data, security systems, employee work spaces, public areas, and life-safety.   


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES

 

Personnel Management: Responsible for the welfare and development of the Electrical Shop

employees.

 

·        Interviews and recommends candidates for hire.

·        Responsible for familiarizing new electrical personnel with facilities, and makes sure electrician’s are given proper training, protection while learning.  Develops plan for upgrading skill level in shops

·        Periodically reviews performance of electrical personnel. Makes recommendations for personal development, or corrective measures, and takes disciplinary action when required.

·        Keeps abreast of changes in the Electrical Code, and makes certain electrical personnel complete mandated NEC review courses.

·        Ensures the shop is kept clean and hazard free. Is alert to safety hazards, and works with employees to eliminate unsafe conditions.

·        Make recommendation regarding the use of contracted labor

 

Electrical Systems and Equipment:  Responsible for proper installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment in all buildings of the campus and historical properties.

 

·        Reviews maintenance procedures and schedules of existing equipment. Develops procedures and schedules for the maintenance of new equipment.

·        VerifiesReviews electrical characteristics and design.  Ensures new electrical installations are in accordance with current codes.

·        Reviews failures of electrical equipment and recommends repair or replacement as necessary. Ensures replacements are compatible with existing conditions. Ensures repair procedures are accomplished in an approved manner.

 

Administration:  Must maintain up-to-date records working with computerized maintenance management software (Maximo) to define all information related to preventative and corrective maintenance, procurement and manpower reports. 

·        Reviews Maximo work load, tracks and assigns work to electricians; ensures job histories are recorded and updated.

·        Monitors job status, labor charges, and the acquisition and use of materials.

·        Maintains time, payroll, work order, material, equipment and other electrical shop records and submits reports.

·        Ensures budgeting guidelines are met; prioritizes shop expenditures to stay within budget and assists in preparation of capital and operations budgets.

·        Ability to obtain necessary licenses and permits for maintenance and new work.  Insure that all work is done by current code requirements and to a standard of excellence by frequently checking job sites and inspecting quality.

·        Reviews plans for future building projects and inspects buildings to ensure compatibility with existing electrical codes and maintenance standards.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (and preferences):

 

  • Education/Experience; High school diploma with trade school or apprentice training as an electrician.  Ten years of journey level building maintenance and new installation work experience.  Three years of supervisory experience of electricians.  Massachusetts master electrician license.
  • Knowledge/Skills: Massachusetts driver’s license.  Good English language speaking, reading, and writing skills.  The ability to use computers in a Windows environment.  Demonstrated experience with the fire alarm, security and building automation systems, as well as experience with computerized maintenance management systems.  Practical knowledge of safety practices of the trade including lock out tag out.  Ability to read construction documents and as-built drawings and interpret and apply operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Technology Skills::  Experience with Excel spreadsheets, databases and Maximo software strongly preferred.
  • Work Environment:  Works in a shop and a variety of building structures, commercial and residential.  Must be able to work in high or confined spaces. Works around electrical current.  As an essential position, may be required to respond to callbacks after scheduled work shift and respond in emergency conditions.
