Primary Class Instruction

Christian Science Primary Class Instruction

Christian Science Primary Class Instruction, a two-week course in spiritual healing, was designed by Mary Baker Eddy for those who have been inspired by the ideas in her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and who have a heart-felt desire to help others through prayer. It’s a unique and precious opportunity to dig further into your relationship with God.

When you feel an interest in class instruction, the first step is to take your desire prayerfully to God. It is God who has awakened in you the desire for deeper spiritual understanding, and He will lead you to the right time, the right place and the right teacher.

You’ll also find it helpful to read Article XXVI of the Manual of The Mother Church, which you can find in any Christian Science Reading Room or branch Church of Christ, Scientist. This article establishes class instruction and the rules that govern it. You can order the Manual from the Online Shop.

Primary class is taught by authorized teachers of Christian Science located throughout the world (see links to the right). You may want to talk with more than one teacher as you research the possibilities. Teachers appreciate inquiries and are careful to avoid soliciting pupils in obedience to the Manual, so don’t feel obligated if you visit with one teacher and then decide to apply to another.

Some questions you might want to ask a teacher about class:

Spiritual readiness

  • What are you looking for in a pupil?
  • What determines spiritual readiness for class instruction?
  • What are the qualifications for taking class with you?
  • How will I know when I am ready?
  • Do you require that students be members of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston?

Logistics

  • What is your application process?
  • Are there any costs involved?
  • What are the dates of your class?

The class experience

  • What is the format of your class sessions?
  • What can I expect to learn in class?
  • What relationship can I expect to have with you after class?

Feel free to email the Board of Education at BoE@csps.com if you have any other questions before you contact a teacher.

Complete contact information is available in The Christian Science Journal and in all Christian Science Reading Rooms.
